Heavy rain possible throughout Illinois

The impact won’t be the greatest on the Galesburg area, but the National Weather Service says heavy rain at times is a possibility throughout almost all of Illinois this weekend.

Forecasters at the Weather Service office in Lincoln — which handles the forecast for Galesburg — says anywhere from two to five inches of rain could fall this weekend throughout some parts of the state.

The heaviest, they say, will be between interstates 55 and 57 where more than five inches could fall. A forecast map indicates Galesburg could be in line for two and a half inches of rain or more this weekend, starting tonight and running all the way through Sunday night.

Flash Flood Watches are in effect throughout a good portion of central and southern Illinois.

But it could be worse. Forecasters are calling for nearly seven inches of rain this weekend in Saint Louis.
