Davies re-elected in Monmouth

Mayor Rod Davies won his re-election bid in the city of Monmouth.

Last night close to fifteen-thousand voters came out in Warren County’s largest city to vote for the candidates for mayor.

Davies, running for his fourth term as mayor, boasted his accomplishments on his ‘Re-Elect Mayor Rod Davies’ Facebook page, including bringing Cloverleaf Storage and two-hundred jobs to Monmouth, and the growth of fiber optic access over the last three years.

Sixty-seven votes were all that separated himself and challenger DuWayne Brooks when all was said and done as he won re-election 768 to 701.

Monmouth’s city council races were split between incumbents and new blood.

Incumbents Susan Twomey and Joe Clark were re-elected while first timers Justin Thomas and Juan Pinedo won their election bids.

In Abingdon, long time council member Myron Hovind won over incumbent Kellie Nelson for mayor.

In East Galesburg, Stephen Bradley defeated incumbent Darrell Corbin, and in Knoxville, acting Mayor Dennis Maurer won as he went unopposed.

Knoxville’s ward two incumbent alderman Karen Benjamin was re-elected by just three votes 67-64.
