Work continues on East Main Street Underpass

Even with the recent rain, work is continuing to be done on the Main Street underpass.
One-hundred and ten foot long support pilings are being driven into the ground and there’s one-hundred and twenty-four pilings that are required for the job with about seventy done.

Galesburg’s City Engineer Wayne Carl says that the process takes awhile, and only about four pilings are driven in a day.

“Each piling comes actually in two sections,” Carl says. “Each piling is about 110 feet long total, so they come in two sections and they have to drive the first section then weld the next section on then finish driving it.”

Carl went on to say that the railroad has lines to make track repair on Lincoln street between Losey and Fremont.

During those two days there will be road closures, and following they will close Chambers for additional track work.
