Galesburg On Track hosts community summit

Galesburg on Track hosted their community summit at the Central Fire Station Saturday.

The event was the product of ten months of stories and information collection were community members were asked what they liked about Galesburg and what they felt were problematic.

Community members came together and organized the stories and information into different, broad categories and used the organized information to create heart and soul statements.

The Heart and Soul Coordinator, Deb Moreno, says the heart and soul statements reflect what the community really think is important in Galesburg.

She continues to say that the feedback on the heart and soul statements will help major decision makers look to specific areas instead of just guessing.

She says, “What we’re going to do is compile all of the heart and soul statements and then give them to the major decision makers, so that’s part A. Part B is we continue on with the heart and soul process. And the next section is phase three, where we begin to create an action plan for the future.”

Moreno says that phase three’s action plans are directly in response to the problems that the community uncovered during the information gathering.
