Your weekend: Whoville, It’s a Wonderful Life and Nova Christmas

Your weekend includes trips to Whoville and Bedford Falls, as well as “A Nova Christmas”.The live performance of a radio play on stage has turned into something of a Christmas tradition at The Orpheum Theatre.

This year they’re revisiting the play that kicked off the annual production, with It’s a Wonderful Life based on the Frank Capra film.

Orpheum Executive Director Kevin Maynard says that even though the actors all have scripts in front of them, they don’t want to appear to be just reading the show.

“So you do have to know the script pretty well, to know where to put the emphasis but also we’re all playing essentially radio personalities so you watch people on stage and they’re all moving around. They’re talking with each other. They all kind of have their own quirks and personality,” Maynard says.

The radio play is also unique in that actors are playing radio actors doing a radio play production It’s a Wonderful Life.

The Nova Singers vocal ensemble’s holiday concert know as, “A Nova Christmas” is Saturday at First Lutheran Church in Galesburg at 7:30 p.m.

The previous night they’ll be playing the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Davenport, Iowa.

This is the Nova Singer’s 31st season of performing.

And for all the little whos in Galesburg there’s an event cooking at the Discovery Depot on Sunday from 1-3 p.m.

The Whoville Festival is promising crafts, games and treats with a Grinchy twist.
