Galesburg firefighter sells his Cub gear to get to World Series

The image of Cubs taking the field in the World Series is a priceless sight for fans of the long suffering franchise.
The price to attend one of the potentially seven games however is not a friendly sight for the Cubs faithful.

According to Ticket IQ an online ticket tracker, the potential four games in Cleveland have an average online ticket price of $3,900 but games four, five and six in Chicago average about $7,200.

Galesburg Firefighter Michael Carlson decided to sell a closet full of his Cubs merchandise for tickets.

Carlson tells Galesburg’s Morning News on WGIL that because of the still steep, but more reasonable prices at Progressive Field he decided to make the trip to Ohio for Games 1 and 2.

“Eventually when the Cubs are in the World Series five or six times in the next 10 to 15 years and Rizzo and Schwarber and Bryant are all grizzled veterans the prices will go down but right now it’s just ridiculous,” Carlson. “But it could be another 50 years, so I was eh, it’s time to go. I’m going to Cleveland.”

Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan today warned consumers to be weary when buying World Series tickets.

She advises only buying from reputable ticket brokers and to take caution when getting them from online third-party sellers.
