Galesburg man arrested on crack cocaine and gun charges

In one incident Galesburg police arrested one man for domestic battery and another for possession of crack cocaine over the weekend.
Galesburg officers responded to call in the 700 block of E. Second St. Saturday night in which a female victim said she cut 20-year old Davon C. Barber’s shoulder in self-defense after he punched her in the face and threatened to get a gun and shoot her.

When officers arrived 22 year-old Devonta Gooden ran out the back door and ran back in and upstairs after seeing police.

Searching his person police found a substance on Gooden that tested positive as crack cocaine.

The female victim signed a waiver to let officers search the residence for a gun, leading police to a black Hi-point 9mm handgun in the house’s upstairs as well as 14 rounds of 9mm ammo.

Barber was arrested and charged with domestic battery.

Judge Stephen Mathers set bond at $3,000 today in Knox County Circuit Court.

Gooden was possession of controlled substance, unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon, resisting a peace officer as well an outstanding $10,000 Knox County warrant.

Mathers gave Gooden $40,000 bond in addition to the $10,000 and set a next court date for Wednesday at 11 a.m.

Both men requested a public defender.
