Knox names fox mascot ‘Blaze’

The newest member of the Knox family is named Blaze.
That’s the moniker a student body vote chose for the fox mascot that Knox College announced in September.

It’s the school’s first ever school mascot according to President Teresa Amott.

The Prairie Fire will remain the official name of Knox athletic teams despite the introduction of Blaze.

Last night with fog, pumping music and a shining spotlight Blaze burst into Memorial Gym where students, staff and alumni were waiting.

He danced, threw out t-shirts and took selfies.

Last night was also the first time the Knox community got to see the full costumed mascot in person.

President Theresa Amott previously said a fox was in part chosen because it being an animal native to the prairie.

Blaze is expected to be on the sideline for today’s football game when Knox hosts Illinois College for Homecoming.
