205 superintendent expected to propose tax increase for tort and transportation funds

District 205 Superintendent Ralph Grimm will give his proposal for how much he thinks Galesburg schools should increase their tax levy tonight.

Previously he indicated his intention to ask the board for raises to the tort and transportation levies.

The transportation levy has purposefully been kept low for a few years says Grimm, but without raising it now the fund would be virtually depleted by the end of the year.

Grimm will also present for board approval, two separate agreements between the school district, one with the Knox County YMCA and one with the City of Galesburg.

The agreement had provided that the ‘Y’ and city could have fees waived for their use of school facilities but a large increase in days the two entities were asking for gym use had ballooned this past year according to Finance Superintendent Jennifer Hamm.

The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. at 205 Board Office on Harrison St.
