YMCA christens Solution’s program expansion at GHS

School is just around the corner in District 205 and at Galesburg High School, a new program will be available to students this year.

The Knox County YMCA announced the expansion of its “Solutions program” earlier this year. Today, district and YMCA officials met in the lobby of Galesburg High School to officially welcome the program, which helps more than 120 at risk youth in the community succeed through character development, service work and adult mentoring.

Ameren, Illinois representatives were in attendance today as well. The company donated $4,000, as a part of their “Ameren cares” program which Division Director Daetta Jones says will help not only the Solutions program, but the community in general.

“By providing our youth with the skills and education they need to grow and succeed, we are strengthening our economy and our future,” Jones said in a speech. “We will give students in this area the opportunity to reach their full potential.”

Solutions Director Joey Range thanked Ameren and 205 for the support to expand.

“You guys opened up the doors to the schools to let us come in so we can help change some kids’ lives.” Range said. “Every day I get to come to work and work with a great group of administrators, teachers and most importantly, a great group of kids.”

WGIL will have more on the Solutions program expansion this Saturday morning on Galesburg Live with Tom Meredith.
