Your weekend: Cars and quilts blanket the area today and tomorrow

This weekend, area residents can go full throttle or take in a bit more timid activity.

Two car shows and a quilt show are among the events that highlight the weekend.

Tonight, 20,000 to 30,000 people will be on Monmouth’s city streets for the annual Cruise night in the Maple City.

The weather initially looked a little shaky, but skies now look clear for tonight. Organizer Kenny Tatman tells Galesburg’s Morning News on WGIL that there’s plenty of entertainment and giveaways in store.

“We have giveaways and drawings for the pre-registered cars and we usually giveaway a long distance award,” Tatman says. “Then we have a drawing, we have a kids little battery powered Corvette that we’re going to raffle off.”

Another car show bringing drive-in movies, bands and other festivities together takes place in Galesburg tomorrow starting with registration at 3 p.m.  The Drive-In-Sanity show will take place at the Blue Moonlight Drive-In Theatre and is a fundraiser for VNA Community Services.

A two-day event in Knoxville is also taking place, starting tomorrow. The biannual “In a Quilters Garden” quilt show will showcase more than 200 quilts at Knoxville High School Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Piecemakers Quilt Guild member Diane Fedorow says quilts will come from all over Galesburg, Dahinda, Knoxville, Cameron and other local municipalities. Admission is $5 for adults, $1 for kids.
