Galesburg Tourism Council talks Georama live video tours

Galesburg’s director of tourism intends to shoot a couple of live video tours timed with Railroad Days as a promotion tool for the town.

At today’s Tourism Council meeting, Tourism Director Bill Morris discussed Georama, a company that provides technology for live web tours.

Morris tells WGIL he’ll start with a live tour of downtown Galesburg at 6 p.m. June 23.

“We’re going to highlight Seminary Street and some of the other sites in our town,” he says, “go over to the depot as well and then we’re going to do a little bit on Railroad Days at 1:30 on the 25th of June.”

The videos can be streamed live on visitgalesburg.com and archived tours can also be watched at enjoyillinois.com.

Morris says videos cover locations from Chicago to the bottom tip of Illinois.

“They’re getting, literally, from hundreds to thousands of views that are streaming live,” he says, “and then people are coming back later and watching them.”

In discussing Railroad Days, Morris adds that local hotels are already fully booked in anticipation of the event.

“It’s fun to see our hotels full and people coming here and spending money,” he says.

Morris will be working with local videographer Jeff Cervantez on the Georama video tours.
