Police investigate Galesburg gun theft

Galesburg police are investigating the theft of several firearms reported stolen yesterday from a West Fremont Street home.

According to a police report, the victim said someone broke into his home yesterday and stole five guns. Among the missing firearms were two 9 mm pistols with ammo, two revolvers and a .22-caliber rifle.

Additionally, an ammo box, loose change and a pair of binoculars were reported stolen. Police observed evidence that the back door had been pried open.

The homeowner said he left home before 7 a.m. yesterday and noticed the missing weapons when he returned in the afternoon. The value of the missing items totals over $3,000.

Police are tracking down suspects. No arrests have been made at this time. Investigation is ongoing.
