District 205 Superintendent Ralph Grimm says that two FY17 budgets are being prepared for Galesburg schools.
Grimm in a letter posted on the district’s website Wednesday says administration is working on a spending plan that has General State Aid and one that does not; a difference of about $17 million.
He says the budget without state aid explores additional ways to “lower expenditures” and stretch “limited cash reserves.”
Yesterday the Illinois General Assembly ended the year’s legislative session without a budget, effectively going a full fiscal year without a spending plan.
The one spending plan that Gov. Bruce Rauner did sign in FY16 was for K-12 education, keeping schools funded last year.
But with FY17 beginning July 1, Rauner and Democratic controlled legislature have yet to pass a budget for anything including K-12 for next year.
Grimm says that he plans on school beginning the year in August on time but has said previously without state aid 205 would have to close schools in February.
District 205 has nearly 4,500 students enrolled and employs approximately 650.
