ROWVA cancels tomorrow’s classes in response to bomb threat

The ROWVA school district has called off school tomorrow as a precaution after ROWVA High School received a bomb threat.

ROWVA Superintendent Joe Sornberger tells WGIL a note was found yesterday warning about a bomb threat for tomorrow afternoon.

“There were no other details included in the note,” Sornberger says. “We immediately contacted the Knox County Sheriff’s Department and deputies which were dispatched to investigate the threatening note. Deputies and administrators searched the high school and middle school grounds and found nothing.”  

Deputies set up checkpoints at entrances to the buildings.

A letter to parents and guardians says May 20 with be used as a makeup day for missed classes tomorrow.

“At this point, the investigation regarding the note continues, but the safety of our student’s is our top priority and we take all of these threats seriously,” Sornberger adds. 

The letter says the district will continue to take precautions. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Knox County Sheriff’s Department.
