Mother’s Day in Galesburg means family togetherness

Today is Mother’s Day, and in Galesburg, many mom’s have spent the day dining and spending time with family for their day of praise.

For local mom Chris Fredrickson, that meant a midday brunch at En Season restaurant with her children, parents, husband and in-laws.

When asked what Mother’s Day meant to her, she told WGIL it’s all about the family.

“It’s a celebration of heritage,” Fredrickson says. “We believe that our parents have done a wonderful job of raising us in a Christian home and teaching us morals and ethics and how to live a good life. It’s celebrating their heritage to us and our heritage to our kids.”

Lisa Norton was also dining with family members. Norton, who is a mother of four, also says taking some time to be with the ones you love is important on Mother’s Day.

“We’re just getting another chance for people to get together,” Norton says. “Not a lot of my kids live nearby, but it still means a lot.”

For restaurants especially, honoring mom makes for one of the busiest days of the year.

Amidst making reservations, seating guests and everything else in the kitchen sink, Landmark Cafe and Creperie owner Phil Dickinson says Mother’s Day is comparable to “what the Superbowl is for bars.”
