Library takes money from different funds to pay month’s bills

The Galesburg Public Library’s Board of Trustees met last night and revealed their general fund is empty until their portion of taxes roll in.

With no money in the general fund, trustees were forced to move around money from other funds to cover this month’s bills.

The bills amounted to around $138,000 and the library won’t receive their share of property tax money until later in June.

$11,000 in working cash was moved, along with money from the computer replacement and debt service funds which covers $98,000.

Board President Martin Reichel made a suggestion to cover the remaining $40,000.

“I suggest the only other option we have is to take the remainder out of the long term capital fund, the portion of the savings there,” Reichel said to trustees.

Reichel says similar maneuvers will have to be performed next month to pay the bills.
