Love’s Travel Stop expected to open by November

Love’s Travel Stop is planned to open by November of 2016 with construction beginning next month.

That comes from Love’s Real Estate Project Manager William Gleason who says construction will start May 9 and should take 5-6 months to complete.

A groundbreaking is being planned for April 19th for the commercial consortium that includes a truck stop, a store, a tire shop, a Subway, a Chester’s Chicken and eventually a hotel.

Knoxville City Clerk Charlie Gruner tells WGIL that throughout the year that Love’s has dealt with the city, they’ve been great to work with.

“They’ve working to make sure everything gets done right,”Gruner says. “And not just for themselves but for the community because they’re planning to be an important part of the community. I’ve found them to be very easy to work with.”

Gruner says Knoxville is now responsible for providing the stop water and sewage after the city annexed the Love’s property last month.

He says the stop will pay county property tax and while Knoxville will incur some expenses in the mean time sales tax should eventually roll in.

“There’s also a hotel/motel tax and we’ll get something on that eventually after it’s built and after it’s running,” Gruner says.

Gruner says Knoxville Mayor Pro Tem Dennis Maurer, along with representatives from Loves, Knox County and District 202 are expected to be at the groundbreaking.
