Teen arrested following GHS school bus bomb threat

A Galesburg High School student was arrested Tuesday for his involvement in a false bomb threat that caused two school buses to be evacuate.

According to the Galesburg Police Department, a 15-year-old GHS student was arrested for charge of juvenile disorderly conduct. As of today, the State’s Attorney’s Office has not filed charges.

Reports show the teen had sent a suspicious text message suggesting a bomb was on board a school bus. Two buses taking GHS students to Galesburg City Hall for a youth in government trip were were evacuated and the students were transferred to another bus to continue the trip.

No suspicious items were found.

Officers spoke with the suspected student at City Hall. Through conversations, police determined the text message was sent as joke.

During police questioning, the suspected student admitted to sending the text.
