Your Weekend: Knox County Child Advocacy Center holds annual fundraiser tonight, Silas Willard open house tomorrow

The Knox County Child Advocacy Center provides resources to children who have been sexually or physically abused. Their only annual fundraiser is set for tonight at the Knights of Columbus Hall.
Starting at 7 p.m., the CAC will hold quarter, silent and live auctions to help offset costs of trauma counseling for abused children. Tickets are $20 ahead of time or $25 at the door. Food will be available in addition to a cash bar.

CAC Director and Forensic Interviewer Judy Guenseth tells Galesburg’s Morning News on WGIL the auction items should draw crowds.

“Some of our really nice items are a St. Louis getaway, we have an overnight in Peoria with a couple of dinners and an overnight in the Quad Cities,” Guenseth says. “Spa items, Cardinals tickets. We do have a Cubs bag with an autographed picture of Matt Szczur.”

Guenseth says the CAC offers a much needed service.

“We provide counseling to all of the children free of charge,” Guenseth adds. “We also provide medical exam, court advocacy, case management, help direct them to community services if they need it.”

The fundraiser isn’t the only event this weekend. Silas Willard’s open house is from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. tomorrow. The open house will show off both the new and old buildings.
