Galesburg City Council members will meet in a work session tonight where aldermen are expected to delve into the results of a study done on the old National Guard Armory building.
Both a building analysis and demand study were enacted–the building analysis to see what the structure could be used for and a demand study to gauge the interest in potentially creating an event center and hotel.
Mayor John Pritchard tells WGIL that there are a number of uses for the armory which could include the center and hotel.
Last year, city administration allocated approximately $3.45 M in funds for the project as a part of a Capital Improvement Plan.
Meanwhile, council is also expected to discuss projects and programming regarding the city’s Parks and Recreation department tonight.
The city is holding a number of work sessions over the coming months aimed at reducing a $3M budget deficit for the 2017 Fiscal Year.
Council will meet tonight at 5:30 p.m. in the Erickson Conference room at City Hall.
