205 to vote on nine additional RIFs tonight

Tonight the 205 School Board will hold a special meeting to finalize some last minute Reductions in Force before their statutory deadline.

Chief among the cuts being voted on tonight is the firing of Tammie Bolden who is in her second year of working as the district’s Director of Curriculum and Director of Bright Futures Preschool.

205 plans on hiring a replacement for Bolden in the Bright Futures position but not for curriculum.

One additional teaching position is up for elimination, which would make it the 17th teacher lost in the budget reduction process.

Additionally votes will come up on RIF’s for seven coaching positions.

Superintendent Ralph Grimm tells WGIL the cuts being voted are the realization of cuts the board approved to go forward earlier.

“We gave them a list of things that they can consider and those are the personnel positions that were reflected in that list,” Grimm says.

Five of the coaching cuts are to licensed teachers who are only losing their differentials for coaching, and two cuts who are not teachers.

Coaching cuts at the high school include a girls soccer coach, two girls track coaches, an assistant football coach, extra-curricular music position and the girls bowling coach.

All programs mentioned have remaining coaches that could conceivably leave the programs intact, except for the girls bowling team whose future is in unclear if the board eliminates the team’s one coaching stipend.

The board will convene tonight at 5:30 p.m. at the 205 district office.
