Moffitt behind Swanson for 74th

Dan Swanson last night prevailed by a significant margin over his two opponents for the Republican nomination in the race for Illinois’ 74th legislative district.

He will now face Democrat Bill Butts in the general election and is one step closer to becoming the successor to longtime State Representative Don Moffitt.

Moffitt tells WGIL he thinks Swanson as well as his opponents Mike DeSutter and Wayne Saline ran campaigns of integrity and all would’ve done a great job.

“They kept it positive, the candidates themselves,” Moffitt says. “Anytime I heard them they were talking issues and that’s the way it should be.”

Moffitt thought what set Swanson apart was possibly that he announced his candidacy and had campaigned several weeks before the other two entered the race.

He also cites Swanson’s 27 year military career and 17 years on the AlWood school board as assets for him but also just “plain hard work.”

Moffitt says he’ll provide any help that Swanson asks of him including campaigning with him and introducing him to contacts.

After last night’s victory the 23 year General Assembly veteran called to congratulate Swanson and told him…

“I said don’t ever take the voters for granted, not that I thought he would, but to be out there working right from the start,” Moffitt said. “He said he planned to.”

Moffitt also says Swanson’s November opponent Butts is no stranger to government and he’s sure both candidates are ready to campaign hard.
