Galesburg man hospitalized after driving car into Monmouth Boulevard home

A Galesburg man was taken to OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria after his vehicle drove into a Monmouth Boulevard home early this morning.

According to police reports, 27-year-old Christopher D. Cole was arrested for reckless driving and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.

When officers arrived at about 6 a.m. to the 1500 block of Monmouth Boulevard, Cole was found with his left arm pinned under a silver Mercury Grand Marquis. The vehicle was on it’s side, part-way inside a residence.

Witnesses said the vehicle had been weaving through traffic at a high rate of speed when it lost control, took out two trees and plowed into the residence.

A man told police he was eating cereal inside the home when he was struck in the head by debris from the crash. He had an open wound to the left side of his face.

Medics on-scene evaluated the man. He refused to be taken to a hospital.

Cole suffered tearing to his esophagus lining and a dislocated shoulder.
