Galesburg man arrested on burglary charges, assaulting police with gun

A Galesburg man is free on $100,000 bond following his arrest Sunday for burglary and aggravated assault of a peace officer with a firearm.

According to court records, 18 year old Alexander J. Brady was arrested Sunday evening in the 1800 block of Knox Highway 16. He is accused of entering an Altona home occupied by two residents with intent to commit theft.

Furthermore, he is accused of wielding a firearm when police arrived. Court documents say Brady “used the firearm” on police, but did not fire it.

He could face up to 15 years in prison for the burglary charge. Judge Scott Shipplett set bond yesterday and did not appoint a public defender.

Brady was released from the Knox County jail this afternoon. As a condition of bond, he is not allowed to have contact with the two victims.

Brady is scheduled to appear again in court at 9 a.m. March 21.
