UPDATE: Galesburg woman arrested for drunk driving after crashing into school bus

Galesburg police removed an open bottle of liquor and a small quantity of cannabis from an SUV that struck the rear of a school bus this morning.

Police responded just before noon today to the area just south of Seminary Street and Carl Sandburg Drive. Officers said no injuries were reported.

According to the Knox County jail, 25-year-old Alyssa L. Erickson of Galesburg was arrested for endangering the life of a child, aggravated DUI and other charges.

At the scene, the bus driver said he was northbound on Seminary Street when he felt a strong impact from behind. The bus was occupied by the driver, a monitor and a young child.

Officers said a scale and plastic baggies — common items associated with the sale of drugs — were found inside the SUV.

Two young children were passengers in the SUV.

The school bus had minimal damage and was driven from the scene. The SUV suffered significant damage to its front end and was towed away just before 1 p.m.

Erickson is held in the Knox County jail awaiting bond hearing.

Updated at 6:40 p.m. 3/7/16 to reflect the SUV driver’s name and charges.
