Loving Bottoms driving for diapers

Loving Bottoms Diaper Bank is still in it’s infancy, if you will, beginning only in September but they are on a mission to provide parents with difficulty paying for diapers do just that.

They joined about 10 existing diaper banks around the state but Loving Bottoms is the first in West Central Illinois.

Founder Leanne Porter tells WGIL how she got started about a year ago by starting a diaper drive.

“I started researching diaper banks across the nation, thinking this is a good idea. Somebody should do this,” says Porter. “Somebody not me, but somebody should do this.”

This weekend running through the end of the day Monday Loving Bottoms is partnering with the Yemm Autogroup for a diaper drive.

Donations of all diaper sizes and cash can be brought to the Yemm Chevrolet showroom where they’ll be filling a Silverado truck with the offerings.

Porter says the cost of diapers can take a huge bite out of the income of a single parent.

“So you’ve got to decide how you’re going to divide that money up, for your utilities, rent and diapers,” Porter says. “They’re kind of a necessity, you don’t just get to go without diapers.”

Porter notes that all diaper donations are welcome but the ages of 4, 5 and 6 are typically the least donated.
