Animal Medical Center offers 24-hour on call service

The Galesburg Animal Medical Center is expanding their veterinary business to include 24-hour on-call services.

Dr. Pete Plescia and his wife, Dr. Christen Plescia, have owned the practice since 2013 when they purchased it from Dr. Tom Liebetrau.

Plescia tells WGIL around the clock services will benefit the community’s pet owners.

“Once we have the four of us doctors, we’re basically going to split the on call and try and do a better job of covering some of the after-hours stuff,” he says. “It’ll save people a lot of driving and often times some finances compared to going to a full-time clinic.”

He says the business has received a lot of demand from customers for veterinary services that can be obtained at all hours.

With the recent hire of Galesburg-native Christine Baysingar, who previously worked as a vet in Utah, Plescia says he’s “looking forward to having increased availability because of more doctor hours.”

The 24-hour service isn’t the only expansion in the pipeline. Plescia says the Animal Medical Center recently purchased a next-door property he plans to turn into a fenced-in place to walk animals that are staying for extended periods.

He estimates the lot is about half an acre.
