Galesburg woman arrested for DUI after hitting utility pole

A Galesburg woman was arrested Monday morning on aggravated driving under the influence charges after her car struck a utility pole, yanking the electrical wires off the side of an East Fifth Street house.

Police responded at 5 a.m. Monday to the 800 block of East Fifth Street where they found a damaged vehicle with deployed airbags.

According to police reports, 27-year-old Daniel R. Shannon had been identified by witnesses as the driver. She was described as belligerent and smelling of alcohol.

Shannon said she was not injured. She was taken to the Galesburg Cottage Hospital emergency room for assessment. Hospital employees told police Shannon had a blood alcohol content of .289.

She was arrested for multiple DUI charges, including aggravated DUI for driving under the influence without insurance. Shannon was transported to the Knox Count jail.
