Police arrest one in Friday meth bust

A Galesburg man is held on $50,000 bond after a police investigation led to the discovery of a meth cook Friday morning in an East South Street basement.

Knox County jail records show Phillip K. Kilgore faces charges of meth production and possession of meth manufacturing materials. The production charge, which alleges the 41 year old helped produce less than 15 grams of meth, carries a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison.

According to police reports, officers detected a strong chemical smell in the early morning hours Friday coming from a home in the 800 block of East South Street.

The homeowners granted police permission to search the residence where several items consistent with meth production were found in the basement. Officers spotted a grinder with white residue, fuel containers and tubing, among other items.

Several people were in the house, however, only Kilgore was arrested. Investigation was taken over by the Peoria Multi-County Narcotics Enforcement Group and State Meth Response Team.

Kilgore is scheduled for a court appearance tomorrow afternoon.
