Sandburg mall pulling in bushels of tractors this weekend

The Sandburg Mall will be hauling in a crowd of mechanical farm equipment this weekend.

It will once again be the site of the Maple City Antique Tractor Association’s annual tractor show.

50 or 60 tractors, depending on weather conditions, will be on display

“If the weather’s half way decent we get a better turnout than when we have these big snow storms,” says Marshall Yeast, the new president of the association who was in the farm equipment business for ten years and worked for FS for 35.

He tells WGIL he joined the group four years ago because he just couldn’t shake farm equipment from his system.

“It’s just a retired thing that I got involved in,” Yeast says. “I got that tractor fever, I guess.”

Four to five vendors will also be on site; some returning vendors but a few new ones are included.

Among those returning are artists like Becky Terpening, a Kirkwood artist who does pen and ink drawings of — among other things — tractors

Charles Freitag is a painter who will have paintings for sale and often paints before visitor’s eyes at the show.

A Ford pedal tractor will be raffled off on Sunday evening, autographed by Joseph Ertl, the head of Ertl Company, an American toy manufactuer.

Tickets will be available for the drawing at the show for $1 each or 6 for $5.

The show will run all weekend during regular mall hours.
