Meth materials discovered in weekend house fire

The Galesburg Fire Department responded Saturday night to a South Henderson Street house fire that led to the confiscation of meth manufacturing materials in the residence.

Fire Investigator Brock Schmidt says a witness called the fire in after spotting a flaming patch of grass outside 440 S. Henderson St. When fire crews arrived after 7 p.m., flames were visible from within the north side of the home.

The blaze was quickly extinguished. Fire damage was limited to a bathroom, however, heat and smoke damage was throughout the residence.

Firefighters spotted items, including camping fuel and blister packs, common with meth manufacturing inside the house. Investigators with the Galesburg Police Department and Illinois State Police were called to the the scene.

As of this morning, no arrests related to the fire have been made. The matter remains under investigation.

Schmidt says no one was home when crews arrived and no injuries have been reported.
