Peoria man faces 10 counts of child pornography in Knox County

Police arrested a Peoria man last week on a $250,000 Knox County warrant for possession of child pornography.

Knox County court records show 19-year-old Zachary E. Shaefer faces 10 counts of unlawful possession of child pornography stemming from a months-long investigation.

Documents show the offenses were committed Aug. 18 of last year and a warrant was issued last Tuesday.

Knox County Detective Carl Kraemer says Peoria police arrested Shaefer Wednesday before the suspect was transferred to the Knox County jail on Friday. Kraemer says the investigation is ongoing and, once complete, will be referred to the State’s Attorney’s Office.

Shaefer’s bond was continued at $250,000 during a court appearance yesterday. He remains in the Knox County jail awaiting a first appearance in court with an appointed public defender at 11 a.m. tomorrow.

Possession of child pornography carries a maximum possible sentence of seven years in prison and up to $100,000 in fines.
