Knox College gets ready for 35th annual International Fair

The annual International Fair has been a cultural celebration at Knox College for 35 years running.
As Knox Associate Director of Communication Peter Bailley says: “It’s this incredibly fun and exciting Knox tradition where students from all around the world will showcase the food and culture and entertainment for their fellow students and for the general public.”

Booths featuring cultural exhibits will be held from noon to 2 p.m. in the Ford Center for the Fine Arts before the flag parade and cultural showcase from 2 to 4:30 in Kresge Recital Hall.

Admission is free for the two events. For $8, or free for children under five, the Food Fair runs from 5 to 7:30, offering menus from 11 different countries.

Bailley says Knox’s emphasis on diversity makes for grand celebration.

“11 percent of Knox students come from outside of the U.S., and so do the top 25 liberal arts colleges for international diversity and among the top 50 for ethnic diversity,  so you’re going to see and experience a lot of different cultures and countries.”

Leading up to Saturday’s fair, a public panel discussion on immigration stories will be held tomorrow and on Wednesday, students will present a discussion on the history of immigration in the U.S.
