Bond issue on final reading for Galesburg Council tonight

A rather light agenda is in the works for Galesburg City Council members tonight who will decide the fate of a $10.7 million bond issue set to be used for a number of infrastructure, street and capital improvement projects around town.

Among those projects include work on at least five brick overlay construction projects to streets and work to the Farnham street bridge.

The bonds go hand in hand with the capital utility tax passed last year. The item is on final reading tonight.

Tonight’s agenda also features one of the larger projects the city is eyeing–a potential $3.45 million renovation of the old National Guard Armory building.

Council is enacting a $28,000 market study for the building before moving forward. Tonight’s proposal would spend just under $20,000 to hire a Peoria firm to begin part of that job.

Council meets tonight at 6:30 p.m, inside city hall.
