Bitter cold hits Knox County

With wind chills expected to get down to negative 27 degrees by tonight, Knox County is experiencing the bitter cold of winter and residents are reminded to stay safe.

A wind chill advisory is in effect until 11 a.m. today and will resume at 6 p.m. tonight lasting until 11 a.m. tomorrow. Though a light dusting fell overnight, no snow is in the forecast until Tuesday evening when temperatures are expected to warm up into the 20’s.

With such cold weather, Galesburg Police Lieutenant Russ Idle reminds citizens to check on their neighbors, specifically the elderly and those sick or ill. In an interview with WGIL last week, Idle also reminded those who have to go out in the elements to take extra precautions by bringing extra clothes, blankets, and coats.
