Woman pronounced dead in Jan. 4 wreck, State’s Attorney’s Office investigating

The Peoria County Coroner pronounced 40-year-old Elizabeth Dechow dead yesterday after she was critically injured in a wreck earlier this month.

The Abingdon woman had been taken by Life Flight helicopter to OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria for injuries sustained Jan. 4 in a three-vehicle crash on Illinois Route 41.

Coronor Johnna Ingersoll says Dechow died yesterday at 3:37 p.m. in the Peoria hospital.

As a result of the wreck, Knox County deputies ticketed 45-year-old Ronald Paschal, of Galesburg, for disobeying a stop sign and failure to reduce speed. The third driver, 46-year-old April Markword, of Rio, was not ticketed.

Paschal and Markword were taken to Galesburg Cottage Hospital for minor injuries.

Assistant State’s Attorney Jon Schlake says the State’s Attorney’s Office is investigating the matter. No new charges have been filed at this time.
