Library board closes on bar purchase

In November, the Galesburg Public Library Board of Trustees voted to purchase Crazy’s 8’s bar.

Today, the sale will close on the saloon that sits adjacent to the future site of the library.

Since the offer to buy came from Crazy 8’s unexpectedly the board had not budgeted for it.

Even though Finance Committee Chairman, Guy Cahill said the price for the bar was what they were looking to spend it required a motion to be made last night that amends the year’s budget.

By a unanimous vote that it was decided to add the extra line item to the FY15 budget, by an amount of $132,500.

The board also decided to accept a bid from M & O Insulation out of Peoria, to remove asbestos from two homes on Academy St. that will also eventually be demolished.

Those homes were picked up by the library in the summer of 2015.

Two bids came to Library Director, Harriet Zipfel, the winning M & O bid came in at $7,400 about $4,000 less than the other.

Also next Monday the board will assemble a committee of three to meet with a library employee who is experienced in graphic design to begin work on a new library logo.
