Actor Pat Harrington Jr dies.

Comic actor Pat Harrington Junior, who is best known as building superintendent “Schneider” on the CBS sitcome One Day At A Time, died Wednesday night. He was 86 and had been disabled by Alzheimer’s.

A New York native, Harrington was a classmate of sportscaster Vin Scully at Fordham University. At the 2012 TV Land Awards — in which One Day at a Time was honored — he fondly recalled “talking baseball in the cafeteria.”

But he made his mark as the womanizing apartment building superintendent Duane Schneider. One Day at a Time creatorNorman Lear called him “the comic strength of the show.”

Along with numerous TV guest appearances, Harrington was seen in such movies as The Wheeler Dealers, Move Over, Darling, The President’s Analyst, The Candidate and Elvis Presley‘s Easy Come, Easy Go.
