Star Wars: The Force Awakens started the new year as the top movie of 2015. Soon it will be the top movie of all-time. The blockbuster added $88.3 million over the weekend, surpassing Jurassic World ($652.3 million) and Titanic ($658.7 million) to become the second-highest grossing movie in history. With $740.3 million, The Force Awakens is only $20 million away from box-office champ Avatar.
Meanwhile, the Will Ferrell – Mark Wahlberg comedy Daddy’s Home had a strong second weekend, earning $29 million. Quentin Tarantino‘s The Hateful Eight earned $16.2 million after going wide. Sisters remained in fourth with $12.6 million, while Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip stayed put in fifth with $11.8 million.
