TEACHER OF THE MONTH FOR NOVEMBER 2008
Mrs. Sandall Teacher: Tica Ortega
Subject: Bilingual Teacher
School: Neilson School in Galesburg
Nominated by: Laura Bosomworth

105.3 KFM congratulates Tica Ortega, November’s KFM Teacher of the Month. Cindy was nominated by Laura Bosomworth, and this is what she had to say about Mrs Ortega:

Mrs Ortega goes above and beyond for Neilson School. She works with teachers, students, and parents to bridge the language barrier. For example, she translates notes, curriculum materials, and report cards for teachers and parents. Mrs Ortega’s specialty is with Spanish-speaking children, but she has been known to learn other languages in order to effectively communicate with non-English speaking individuals. Not only is Mrs. Ortega an awesome bilingual teacher, but she is an outstanding resource for classroom teachers. She is willing to help in any way she can and co-teacher a classroom. For example, Mrs. Ortega obtained and dissected a pig’s heart and lungs for a 5th grade class when they were studying the human body. She’s not afraid to do anything in order to give the children a super learning opportunity. As you can see, Mrs. Ortega is an amazing educator. She works hard for her the kids, staff, and community. She should be the next KFM Teacher of the Month!

As KFM’s Teacher of the Month, Tica wins a $100 gift card from Toys and Teachers, and the Big Red Apple Award courtsey of Lacky Monuments and 105.3 KFM Today’s refreshing Light Rock!
