April 26, 2018 @ 12:20 pm - 2:20 pm

James V. Jacobs was educated at Marion College (now Indiana Wesleyan University) and Western Illinois University. While in college, he worked in the Civil Rights Movement with National Urban League affiliates in Indiana. After college, Jacobs taught fifth grade in the Galesburg, IL public schools for thirty-five years. Upon retiring from the Galesburg Schools, he taught writing for ten years at Carl Sandburg Community College in Galesburg. During and after his years in the classroom, Jacobs received a number or awards for his teaching and commitment to human relations. Jacobs’s essays and short stories have appeared in The Prairie Journal, the political and social commentary The Zephyr, the literary/art magazine Phizzogs, and he authored A Teacher’s Guide to Voices of the Prairie Land. No Ordinary Season is his first published novel.

Susan Van Kirk is a writer of short stories, mysteries, and a creative, non-fiction memoir about teaching. Her first mystery, “Three May Keep a Secret,” was published by Five Star/Cengage in the fall of 2014. A novella about her detective, “The Locket: From the Casebook of TJ Sweeney,” released in spring, 2016, only as an ebook. Five Star published the second novel in the series, “Marry in Haste,” in the fall of 2016. The last novel of the trilogy, “Death Takes No Bribes,” came out the following spring. A high school and college teacher for forty-four years, she has always been interested in mysteries since she read the entire Sherlock Holmes series at an early age. It was love at first murder, and yes, her parents were worried.

Susan Sharp is Assistant Professor of Theatre at Sandburg and she is featured in the 13 th edition of The Change. The book chronicles 20 different perspectives on self-empowerment. Sharp’s chapter is entitled You’re Already a Masterpiece and encourages people to see the intersection of their gifts and abilities as the place where their life’s purpose begins. “It’s not just about having talent, it’s about how you leverage it and share it that makes the true difference. Someone out there needs your story, your insight and your perspective.” Susan is involved in several creative pursuits including playwriting & speaking (www.asharpdifference.com) and her online art sales (www.asharpcontrast.etsy.com). Her second book will be out this spring and it is a journal called Mid-Life Wisdom and is co- authored with a forward by former VP of Product Development for Avon, Mike Greenly. Susan’s children’s book Frotter Spires will be out this summer. You can reach out to Susan susan@asharpdifference.com. Currently, she is writing a new book which should be finished in the fall of 2017, and she spends her time between the small town of Monmouth, Illinois, and the large city of Phoenix, Arizona, where her three children and nine grandchildren live.
