Auditions for “Talking With” by Jane Martin

November 14, 2018 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Free

Auditions for “Talking With” by Jane Martin. Talking With is a collection of eleven monologues delivered by women characters. You will read from the script and may perform a monologue of your own if you wish…It is not required. This show is a great opportunity for performers with life/time constraints as we will be working one on one for the rehearsal period and can be very flexible with scheduling. Show will run Feb 22-24. Women, women+ of color especially encouraged to audition. Auditions will be held at Central Congregational Church. Please note character descriptions are at the bottom of this notice.

(Following Show description borrowed from Michael Meigs at Austin Live Theatre)
This is a collection of sharp, bittersweet portraits of women, many of whom have reacted to disappointments by melting into private worlds. An actress; a housewife who lives much of the day in the dream world of Oz; a baton twirler and a rodeo rider; an aspiring actress; a woman about to give birth to a child who may be deformed; a devotee of the plastic world of McDonald’s; and more.

Martin’s pieces offer actresses a moment on the high wire — an almost bare stage, a character, and an audience to convince. They have a rhythm. Establishment; elaboration; vivid word pictures;a moment of absence; a jolt or a moment of defiance as the woman leads us…to her story.

Character Descriptions
In reference to the character descriptions below—most characters we encounter currently are on the binary and are written with she/her pronouns and you will see that in the following descriptions. But however limiting the descriptions are, our casting seeks to be as inclusive as possible and we invite gender non-conforming, genderqueer, transgender and non-binary actors to submit for the roles they most identify with. We will also list race/ethnicity when specific to the character but are otherwise seeking all races and ethnicities. In addition, we will list disability when specific to a character, but are otherwise seeking actors with disabilities as well as able-bodied actors for all roles. Please let us know if you have any questions, concerns, or if there are any accommodations we can provide.
