With the temperature dropping, waste collectors in Galesburg will not be taking yard waste on a weekly basis.
For the winter, the city’s solid waste hauler, Waste Management, will collect residential yard waste during a one-week period each month.
Residential yard waste will be collected on properties’ assigned waste collection days the weeks of December 9-13, January 6-10, and February 3-7.
Weekly yard waste collection will then resume on Monday, March 2, of next year.
In addition, it is noted that metal trash containers should not be used during the cold months as yard waste will freeze to the metal and will not be emptied from the container.
It is recommended to use paper yard waste bags or plastic trash containers during the cold weather.
