Abingdon man faces drug charges following arrest

Bond stands at $30,000 for an Abingdon man facing a litany of charges in separate cases.

28-year-old Toby M. Stambaugh Jr. made a video appearance in Knox County Circuit Court Wednesday where Judge Curtis S. Lane appointed the public defender’s office to represent him.

Charges filed in two different cases include charges of meth possession with intent to deliver, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, failure to report a motor vehicle accident causing injury, and aggravated fleeing and eluding. In all, he faces 12 charges, 10 of which are felonies.

According to Galesburg Police reports, officers were looking for Stambaugh related to a $30,000 warrant issued on August 30th.

The warrant was in relation to an incident with Galesburg Police officers. It is alleged that Stambaugh fled officers, striking one with his vehicle. Stambaugh allegedly led police and Knox County Sheriff’s Deputies on a high-speed pursuit where his vehicle was involved in an accident, crashing into a creek.

Police officers located Stambaugh walking in the area of Mulberry and Pine Streets Tuesday morning and attempted to stop him. He attempted to run away but was cut off by officers and apprehended without further incident.

While searching him, officers allegedly found a small bag containing four white pills and a small bag of what later field-tested positive for methamphetamine.

He was taken to the Knox County Jail, where officers interviewed him and he allegedly admitted to them that the pills were Vicodin. Reports say that he told officers he intended to sell the drugs, “for the cost of a train ticket plus a pack of smokes and some food.”

A preliminary hearing was scheduled for October 29th in his case.
