CHICAGO (AP) – Illinois will get about $382,000 of a national settlement following a computer security expert’s whistleblower lawsuit against Cisco Systems Inc.
James Glenn had reported security flaws in Cisco video surveillance software used at major U.S. airports and by federal agencies. According to the lawsuit he filed under the federal False Claims Act, Glenn lost his job instead of being rewarded for the 2008 discovery.
Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul said Thursday that attorneys general in over a dozen states opened an investigation after the lawsuit.
The lawsuit was unsealed this week with the announcement of an $8.6 million settlement. Glenn will get a share, with the rest going to the federal government and several states.
Cisco says it’s pleased to have resolved the dispute and it has no evidence the flaws were exploited.
