Monmouth man accused of setting fire to, barricading himself inside, home

A Monmouth man may be facing charges after he allegedly set his house on fire then barricaded himself inside.

Monmouth Police say authorities from various agencies were called just before noon Saturday to the 500 block of West Second Avenue for the fire and barricade situation. Police say they were able to get a man identified as 41-year-old Brian Sage out of the residence, and taken to OSF Holy Family Medical Center for an evaluation. Sage’s condition isn’t known.

Crews from Monmouth, Cameron, and Kirkwood were able to get the fire out before it could spread to other structures. The extent of damage isn’t known, but police say the home itself remains in tact.

Police say charges could be filed once the case is reviewed by the Warren County State’s Attorney.
