Local restaurant closes its doors

In mid-March of this year, King Gyros on the corner of North Broad and East Fremont in Galesburg was acquired by Luis Ricardo Vallatares and his family. By mid-April of this year, the establishment had a new exterior look, an expanded menu featuring breakfast items, and new specials. As of Saturday, June 22nd, the business closed its doors. A simple Facebook post on the business’ page stated: “Sorry, We’re Closed” and “Thanks for everything, Galesburg.” Vallatares tells WGIL business had gotten just too slow over the past couple of weeks and said it was overwhelming. He said they prided themselves on good service and popular menu items – but sometimes things “just don’t work out.” In the meantime, Vallatares, who still works full-time in construction for BNSF, said he wished to thank his customers and appreciates all the help he got from his family, friends and the public.
