Williamsfield project a finalist for $10,000 ag grant

An agricultural community project in Williamsfield made it to the top-ten group of finalists in a national competition, where the winner could win $10,000.

Agricultural chemical and seed company Corteva Agriscience asked farmers to nominate local groups that demonstrate the power to do more in their communities and the Williamsfield School District’s ag department renovation is a finalist.

Joanie Stiers who serves with the local FFA Alumni and Friends chapter, says that the grant money from winning would help buy new tools, equipment, and educational tools for the students.

“We have school leadership that is very futuristic and innovative in their approach. Thankfully they were generous to look at the needs to revamp our ag department to meet what current agricultural needs are.”

The updated classroom and shop would allow students between 5th and 12th grades access to modern agriculture techniques and career opportunities.

Corteva plans to award the group that receives the most online votes between now and July 8th with $10,000.
