State Police investigating Stark County Jail death

The Illinois State Police is investigating a Friday afternoon death at the request of the Stark County Sheriffs Department.

Investigators say jail staff discovered 31-year-old Sterling Williams, Jr. of Toulon unresponsive and alone inside a jail cell around 4:30 Friday afternoon.  Williams was taken to OSF Saint Luke Medical Center in Kewanee where he was pronounced dead.

No other information as to what happened has been provided.

Stark County Court records indicate Williams had appeared in court that day for a first appearance on a Class-Four Felony charge of Criminal Trespass to a Residence, along with Misdemeanor counts of Violating an Order of Protection, Domestic Battery, Aggravated Assault, and Interfering with the Reporting of Domestic Violence.

State Police, meanwhile, say their investigation is continuing.
